Prose Writing
HWC offers a variety of gatherings throughout the year for prose writers. In a relaxed setting in Merewether, HWC members are invited to share their work. By registering (right) you will be emailed about one-day gatherings, one-day-a-week gatherings and evening get-togethers. We read and discuss works by published writers, share our own work, try some writing exercises, laugh, share food and become friends. There is usually a small fee payable once the bookings are confirmed. eg. a one-day gathering is $25. Note, poets are welcome too because prose writers have much to learn from poems but these gatherings centre on prose. Poets are also encouraged to attend one of our poetry groups around the region. If you are new to HWC we recommend you attend the Creative Writing for Newcomers course Not a member? Become a member |

Feedback from past gatherings:
Participation has provided me with courage to continue writing. I've gained valuable tools to help me improve my writing and, to find my voice. Most importantly, it would seem, I am finding friends - Christopher
I think my hour journey in the train to reach the prose group is worth it! I enjoy how the many facets of writing and story telling are presented and used within the class. The exercises and homework are meaningful and can show how one idea can produce many outcomes. Social interaction within the group is friendly and helpful - Margaret
I found the gatherings a fun way to join with others and explore some of the techniques used in writing. Each week there is a chance for everyone to share their work in a friendly environment and receive valuable feedback - Anthony
I have gained so much from attending. I have received solid critique on my writing from fellow writers, whilst engaging in reading and commenting on their work in return. It has been a valuable time where I have been pushed and have experimented in my writing techniques - Christy
The group offers you the chance to read from well-chosen examples from the greats, listen to the feedback of others, learn from the ideas and writing of other members, experiment with writing exercises that push your to develop your writing. Supportive, challenging and fun - a balanced triptych for journeying through the writing landscape. - Alison
