Children's Writing
Saturday 11th August City Library Time: 9.45-1.45pm $60 members / $90 non members Course Outline Writing books for children and young adults is a privilege and a joy. As both published author and children’s book editor, Sue Whiting is able to provide much insight into this exciting field. From picture books through to middle grade novels, this course will explore the unique challenges that writing for children presents and examine what it takes to make a manuscript catch an editor’s eye. As well as providing an overview of the field, the course will put the spotlight on some of the essential elements of successful writing for children, such as rediscovering your inner child, writing from deep within a child’s point of view, developing an authentic voice, creating living, breathing characters and finding that elusive original idea. Partcipants are invited to bring along a sample of their work to share with the group for discussion and feedback. (This is an invitation, not a requirement.)
